Unlacquered Brass Bathroom Accessories: How to Plan a Bathroom That Ages Together

The small pieces make a bathroom feel finished. When the towel bar, hooks, shelf and paper holder are all unlacquered brass, they age together with the faucet, so the room looks more considered each year rather than more worn.

The pieces most bathrooms need

  • Towel bar or towel rack near the shower or tub.
  • Hand towel bar or ring beside the sink.
  • Toilet paper holder, ideally with a small shelf for a phone.
  • Robe hooks on the back of the door or beside the shower.
  • A shelf for the things that would otherwise crowd the vanity.

Browse all unlacquered brass bathroom accessories: towel bars, hooks, shelves and paper holders in solid brass and copper.

Placement heights that work

Piece Typical height from floor
Bath towel bar About 48 in
Hand towel bar or ring About 20 in above the vanity top
Toilet paper holder About 26 in, 8 to 12 in in front of the toilet
Robe hook About 70 in
Shelf over a toilet At least 24 in above the tank

These are starting points. Adjust for the people who use the room, and always fix into studs or proper wall anchors.

Mixing brass and copper

Unlacquered brass and copper both darken toward warm brown, so they sit comfortably together. A useful rule: keep one metal for the large pieces (faucet, shower, sink) and use the other for one or two accents. A hammered copper wall sink with brass hooks and towel bar is a combination we see often.

Humidity and care

Bathrooms are humid, so unlacquered pieces patina faster here than anywhere else in the house. That is a good thing if you want the warm, aged look quickly. Wipe with a soft dry cloth, avoid bleach and ammonia-based sprays (they spot the metal), and polish any piece back to bright whenever you like.

From an Astoria studio to a Marrakech workshop

Every Brassdoria piece starts as a drawing in our studio in Astoria, New York, and is made by hand in Marrakech, where metalworking families have shaped brass and copper for generations. The hammer marks you see are not a pattern applied by a machine. They are the record of one artisan working one sheet of metal.

We make every piece to order, in solid metal, never plated. That is why we can stand behind it with a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects, 30-day returns and free express tracked shipping to the US and Canada.

Plan the rest of the room

Accessories look best when they match the fixtures. See our shower and tub filler guide, the bathroom faucet collection, and brass pipe shelving and towel racks for larger storage.

FAQ

Does unlacquered brass tarnish in a bathroom?

It darkens faster because of the humidity. This is the patina. It does not rust.

Will my accessories match my faucet exactly?

Not on day one, and not exactly ever. Pieces exposed to more water and touch age differently. Over time they settle into the same family of tones.

Are the shelves solid metal?

Yes. Our accessories are solid brass or solid copper, never plated.

Do they come with fixings?

Check each product page for what is included, and use anchors suited to your wall.
